It is the perfect time to choose a career in Nursing

It seems that no matter where we are, we keep on hearing about how bad the economy is faring these days. Applying for a job (and keeping it) as a result, has become a challenge for everyone.


With this in mind, you may want to consider a career in nursing.  Compared to other fields, the nursing industry can offer a promising future when it comes to job security and compensation.


In 2006, the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics reported that registered nurses (RNs) made up the largest contingent in the healthcare occupation, amounting to with around 2.5 million nurses working all over the country.  The demand for nurses is still expected to grow 23 percent, guaranteeing 587,000 new jobs until the year 2016. 


But what's behind the rising demand for nurses?  A major cause for this trend is the fact that members of the Baby Boomer generation are getting older, and therefore need more medical care and attention.    They need specialists to cater to their long-term health needs, both inside the hospitals and their own homes.  With an ever-increasing patient base, doctors, nurses, and other careers in the health care industry remain strong have become the most sought-after professions among those who want to get into solid, rewarding jobs.


Nursing is highly diverse in terms of employment settings.  As a nurse, you can work in hospitals to help in the treatment of patients in critical care units, emergency departments, and operating rooms.  Some careers in nursing can also be found in physician’s offices and outpatient care centers.  These registered nurses receive an annual median earning salary ranging from $40,000 to as high as $83,000 in 2006.  Some nurses are also given extra benefits, such as subsidized trainings, cash bonuses, or family-friendly work schedules.  These are promotional efforts to boost the number of RNs in the country and to prevent a shortage of nurses in the near future.
