Go back to school, not to learn but to teach

The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics reported in 2006 that one in four Americans is enrolled in various educational institutions. This accounted for about 13.3 million teaching jobs nationwide in 2006, making the education service sector the second largest industry (after the health care industry) that year.

The diversity of teaching levels and methods help explain the wealth of employment opportunities in this industry. You may choose a career in various disciplines, teaching people of all ages: children, teenagers, and adults.

If you’re fond of kids, you can be a preschool, kindergarten, or elementary school teacher.  You get to teach basic subjects such as mathematics, science, language, and science in a fun way.  Most of teachers in this category use games, music, films, and computers to teach basic skills to young minds.

Middle school and secondary teachers, on the other hand, expose teenagers or young adults to more information about the world.  These teachers do not only educate young people through comprehensive, mandatory subjects like English, Spanish, biology, and history, they also administer career-oriented curriculums to help students in choosing their future careers.

College or university professors, meanwhile, serve as career advisers and mentors for college students who already chose their career path. These teachers give lectures, assign laboratory work, and require research papers—learning activities that help students master and excel in their preferred degree. It may be a degree in business, social science, and in medicine. Undergraduate and post-graduate professors also obligate students to undergo internships to give them an opportunity to learn and practice their skills in a real-world work setting.

As the country’s demand rises for a better-educated and well-trained workforce, the earning potential of educators have also increased. For instance, teachers’ wages grew by 11% in 2006, reaching up to $77,790, which is higher than the average income for Americans.

Aside from the compensation and benefits, the opportunity of teaching to students is rewarding.  So share your knowledge and skills!
