Be More Productive at Work....Nap on the Job
Remember the Seinfeld episode where George creates a minature bed under his desk to take afternoon naps? There once was a time when sleeping at work like George would have been a fire-able offense. However, a recent NASA study showed that a 26 minute nap can boost an employee's productivity by 34%.
Remember the rejuvenation of life when waking up from "nap time" in Kindergarten? Maybe we were on to something at such a young, tender age. Survey results stated that 56% of French workers believe that being tired at work has negatively affected their job performance. The French government is currently exploring whether "on the job naps" during the work day would assist in improving productivity.
The argument could be made that it is unethical to receive money from a company to perform an activity that historically has been left to the confines of one's home. However, from a monetary standpoint, or for you bottom-liners, a recent study showed that tired workers cost the American and Japanese economies a combined $180 billion per year in lost productivity.
Next time you reach for the coffee pot at work, remember these statistics, and also remember that coffee will provide you with an immediate pulse of energy at work, but will quickly subside to a level of even more exhaustion. It's time for a napping revolution!!
