Basic Knowledge and Skills Required for Green Jobs

Many danger signs today point to the fact that global warming is real. As a result, a new trend towards sustainable development has emerged. This is the reason why eco-friendly jobs, sometimes referred to as green jobs, are considered to be the jobs of the future.

Contrary to popular belief, green jobs are not just limited to the energy sector where scientists and engineers try to find alternative sources of renewable energy. Different organizations are trying to find ways to convert traditional operations and processes to be more eco-friendly. For instance, more and more organizations are looking for means to reduce their energy consumption or manage and reduce their waste more efficiently.

If you want to convert your specialty to this new field, build on your current skills and at the same time learn some of the basic knowledge and skills required for green jobs. Doing so can prepare you for the needs of the increasingly environmental work place.

Here are some of the knowledge and skills required for green jobs:

  • Familiarity on the value and principles of energy conservation
  • Knowledge on operational waste management and waste reduction

  • Know-how on “green management,”  which includes the implementation of conservation practice processes, assessment of facilities and review of energy consumption levels
